The BBC writes about the accusations towards the West, made by the Catholic Archbishop of Jos, in central Nigeria. According to the BBC, Ignatius Kaigama says the West has ignored the threat of militant Islamist group Boko Haram. He calls on the international community to help.
The BBC writes that Ignatius Kaigama said the world had to show more determination to halt the group’s advance in Nigeria.
‘A monumental tragedy’
Last weekend, 23 people were killed by female suicide bombers. One of the bombers is thought to be a 10-year-old girl. Last week, hundreds were killed by Boko Haram in the town of Baga in Borno state.
Archbishop Kaigama told the BBC: “It is a monumental tragedy. It has saddened all of Nigeria. But we seem to be helpless. Because if we could stop Boko Haram, we would have done it right away. But they continue to attack, and kill and capture territories… with such impunity”
The Archbishop calls upon the international community to help and show the same spirit and resolve it had done after the attacks in France.
