ENGAGE AND SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY IN EXERCISING ITS RIGHTS TO HEALTH

Cordaid has taken on the mission of promoting “social accountability” in the most vulnerable regions of one of Africa’s poorest countries, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. By strengthening the Health Committees (CODESA) and implementing an approach known as “Results-Based Financing” (RBF), Cordaid has been pioneering the introduction of “social accountability” that will enable citizens to have their voice heard (demand-side) and improve the efficiency of public institutions (supply-side). As highlighted by the World Bank, “reform measures in the public sector must focus on accountability and responsibility based both on people’s respect of regulations and on performance.
