Cordaid co-submitted an alternative report about the impact of mining activities on local communities’ rights in DRC, to the Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights.
The report was jointly developed with Franciscans International, the International League of Women for Peace and Freedom and Dominicans for Justice and Peace (Order of Preachers). It is part of advocacy efforts that want the mining sector to contribute to the sustainable development of populations living in mining areas of DRC.
“Instead of being a source of impoverishment for local communities, mining exploitation in DR Congo should rather contribute to the effective realization of the economic, social and cultural rights of these communities according to the provisions of the article 2 of the International Covenant on economic, social and cultural rights”, says Mr. Fabien Mayani, Coordinator of Lobby & Advocacy Program of Cordaid in DRC
The report is in French.
