Our comprehensive health programmes are designed to strengthen the overall capacity of the healthcare system, particularly through targeted training and empowerment of health professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In close partnership with the National Ministry of Health, Cordaid actively implements the Boma Health Initiative, a significant effort aimed at improving community-based health outcomes. By December 2024, Cordaid had successfully recruited and trained 925 Boma Health Workers, including 47 supervisors, equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge to deliver healthcare services effectively within their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We provide these frontline health workers with critical financial incentives, extensive training modules, and continuous mentorship, enabling sustained improvement in healthcare delivery and resilience within local health systems. Our strategic focus has evolved from mere capacity building towards robust capacity strengthening, ensuring lasting enhancement in service quality and healthcare worker competence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the Boma Health Initiative, significant improvements have been realised in the treatment of prevalent childhood illnesses, including pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria, and malnutrition, ensuring healthier communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the initiative has created essential referral pathways for addressing gender-based violence, empowering health workers to effectively identify, support, and connect survivors to necessary services, thereby fostering a safer and healthier community.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"section\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12 col-md-8 offset-md-2\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"page-links\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul class=\"row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"col-12 col-sm-6\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"page-links__item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\n\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/cordaid.org\/en\/what-we-do\/health-care\/\" class=\"btn btn btn--more page-links__link\"  >\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"btn__text\">\n\t\t\t\tMore on health care\n\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"btn__icon\">\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"icon icon-chevron-right\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"section section--core \"><div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 col-md-8 offset-md-2 block-wrapper\"><div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong>Humanitarian assistance<\/strong><br>In response to the multifaceted humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, exacerbated by climate-induced flooding, erratic weather patterns, and displacement caused by the ongoing civil war in Sudan, Cordaid provides comprehensive humanitarian assistance to affected communities, mainly internally displaced persons, refugees, and returnees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our interventions include the distribution of essential food and non-food items, provision of safe drinking water facilities, emergency shelter and school, essential medicines, and hygiene supplies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognising the critical importance of water, sanitation, and hygiene, Cordaid actively promotes good hygiene practices, distributes items such as soap, buckets, and sanitation kits, and constructs sustainable water supply systems to mitigate health risks and disease outbreaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cordaid employs cash-based interventions to empower people by providing direct financial assistance, enabling families to address their immediate needs and fostering greater resilience. Our interventions focus on building resilient agri-food systems and promoting inclusive, climate-smart livelihoods for vulnerable communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We support smallholder farmers, particularly women and youth groups, cooperatives, and farmer organisations, to increase food production, enhance value addition, and adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices. This includes training in nutrition-sensitive agriculture, seed sampling and post-harvest technologies, as well as business skills to strengthen value chains and promote farming as a viable enterprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To foster employment and entrepreneurship, Cordaid promotes diversified income-generating activities, rural microfinance models, and market-oriented vocational skills development for youth. Our agri-food programmes adopt a systems-strengthening approach, working with both public and private sector actors to enhance access to technical assistance, financial services, and agricultural inputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response to South Sudan\u2019s protracted crises, Cordaid operates across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, aiming to transition households from dependency to self-reliance. It ensures that marginalised voices are not only heard but also actively involved in local decision-making and conflict resolution. We also work with authorities to enhance access to justice and security at the community level through collaboration with the Police Community Relations
