The year 2024 was marked by deepening global instability. With 61 active conflicts across 36 countries, the highest number since 1946, millions of people faced violence, poverty and displacement. For Cordaid and its partners, working in some of the world’s most fragile regions, these crises are a daily reality. Thankfully, in 2024, we have also been able to continue providing vital assistance and standing beside affected communities.

At a time when humanitarian needs are growing, international solidarity is weakening. The closure of USAID programmes and cuts to the Dutch development cooperation budget, combined with rising global military spending, are threatening progress in peacebuilding, justice and sustainable development.
In 2024, Cordaid took the first steps toward transforming how we work in response to these global realities. We began strengthening the leadership of local partners and communities, promoting greater self-reliance and autonomy in fragile contexts. We also worked to improve our financial outlook, diversify income, and make our operations more efficient.
Despite a challenging environment, Cordaid closed the year with positive financial results and renewed confidence. Above all, 2024 reaffirmed our mission: to stand with people in the most vulnerable situations and to amplify their voices in the pursuit of a just and peaceful world.
