Data

Cordaid’s mission is to reduce the fragility and vulnerability of people where it is most needed and most difficult: in fragile and conflict-affected societies. We envision a world free from poverty, where every person has the chance to live in safety and dignity, with access to health care, education and work. In our actions and campaigns, we call upon people to join us in fulfilling our mission. Cordaid is funded by donor organisations and by gifts from members and private donors. We collect personal data (name, address, place of residence, telephone number, e-mail address, gender and age) to inform you about our actions and campaigns and the results achieved and for marketing purposes, such as a gift or upgrade request. We keep a donor- and relation administration, in which, among other things, the personal details of members, donors and customers are recorded. A relation is a person who is familiar with Cordaid (for example by participating in a campaign, a newsletter subscription or an information request), but who is not a donor.

Purposes

The collection of personal data takes place via our websites when you register for our email newsletter when you fill in a petition form, create an action or participate in it, register as a donor or when you place an order via our webshop. This is done offline via street recruitment, a registration form or a telephone conversation. Cordaid may in some cases use services from third parties to validate or supplement data if they are incomplete, for example after a relocation. Cordaid processes this personal data for its donor- and relation administration, and fundraising programs and to inform on actions and campaigns. Financial data and data relating to a transaction, gift, donation, purchase or payment are collected by Cordaid to perform a contract (donation, membership or purchase in the webshop).

Contact with donors and relations

E-mail
When you are a donor or relation of Cordaid or you have indicated that you would like to be informed of our news, you will be informed about our work and results by e-mail and we incidentally ask for an (extra) contribution.

If you no longer wish to receive e-mails, you can unsubscribe from these e-mails at any time via the unsubscribe option in every message that you receive from us or via our contact form on our website. It will take a couple of days to process your deregistration. Therefore, you may still receive a newsletter from us after you have unsubscribed because the deregistration has not yet been processed in all systems.

SMS
You can also sign up to be informed by Cordaid via SMS. You will then be informed by SMS about our work and results and we incidentally ask for an (extra) contribution.

If you no longer wish to receive SMS, you can unsubscribe via our contact form on our website. It will take a couple of days to process your deregistration. Therefore, it could be possible that you will still receive an SMS update from us because the deregistration has not yet been processed in all systems.

Telemarketing
Cordaid uses Telemarketing to inform donors and relations about our campaigns and to ask them for support with a(n) (extra) gift when you have permitted us to do so. (We are allowed to call without permission, when you are a donor who has already started to support us before July 1 2021, of course, unless it is known to us that calling is not desired).

Cordaid works within the legal framework of the Telecommunications Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can unsubscribe from telemarketing during any phone call. You can also state this on our website.

If you have indicated you no longer wish to be called by us, we will process this in our administration and we will no longer call you at the phone number you have indicated.

When you contact us by phone or when we call you, we may record the phone call. This will be for training- and education purposes, and when you become a donor, to record that the donation agreement has been established. Do you have an objection to this? Notify this in the phone call or use your rights. Read more about this under the chapter: Rights.

Direct mail
Cordaid sends mail to inform donors and relations about our work, to keep informed about achieved results and for incidental requests for a contribution. If you have indicated not to receive mail from Cordaid, we process this in our administration and we will no longer approach you via direct mail. You can indicate this via the contact form on our website. When we send mail to potential donors/relations we check the addresses in advance on notifications in the post filter.

Our magazine: Zin geven
Zin geven is our print magazine, which includes, among other things, interviews, foreign reports, investigative stories, photo reports and columns. Cordaid’s donors receive the magazine twice a year. If you do not appreciate this, you can indicate this via the contact form on our website.

Social media
Cordaid is active on various social media channels. We use LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Cordaid also uses the mobile telephone number and/or e-mail address of its donors and relations for Custom Audience Targeting via Facebook, in which only people mentioned by Cordaid get to view advertisements. For example, Cordaid creates a Custom Audience by uploading the e-mail addresses of its members in an advertising tool. This group can then be linked to a specific Facebook campaign: only these Facebook users will see the campaign and associated advertisements. Read more about Custom Audience targeting. If you do not want to be part of a Custom Audience, you can contact the Cordaid Service Desk: 070-313 62 33 (during office hours) or [email protected].

Satisfaction survey
Incidentally, we conduct satisfaction surveys among our donors. If you have indicated you want to participate in these, you will receive one or several (online) surveys from us. We use the data from this research to improve our services.

How does Cordaid protect data?

Cordaid has taken physical, technical and organisational measures to protect your data. Cordaid uses a secure server that is only accessible to persons who are authorised to do so. Any data you enter on our online forms will be sent encrypted. Cordaid engages third parties in the performance of its services. When these third parties process personal data when performing their services, they do so in the capacity of a processor. All our processors are required to protect your data. We conclude agreements with all our processors in which we explicitly include this.

Data retention

We process personal data as long as necessary for the above purposes. After that, your data will be removed from our donor- and relation administration.

Children’s data

Cordaid does not focus on processing the data of children under the age of 16. Although people of all ages can visit our website, we do not knowingly collect or request personal information from children under 16 without parental consent.

Applicants

When you apply with us, we store your data, including your resume and motivation letter up to one year after the end of the application period. If you want us to remove your data earlier, contact us via the contact data below.

Rights

Via our Service Desk 070-313 62 33 (during office hours) or [email protected], you can inform us when you want to view, rectify or erase your data or if you want to object to data processing by Cordaid. You can also withdraw your consent for data processing via the Service Desk. In addition, you can also receive all your contact information, address and bank details in a machine-readable format, which could be helpful if, for example, you would want to pass it on to another organisation. Any complaints on the processing of your data by Cordaid can be submitted to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Quality mark

Cordaid is CBF certified. CBF is a Dutch quality mark for charity organisations. We are a member of the Marketing Association for Data-Driven Marketing DDMA and support the codes of conduct drawn up by this association, including the Privacy Guarantee label.
