Lebanon
Together with its long-standing partner Caritas Lebanon, Cordaid supports the Lebanese population with timely and essential humanitarian assistance.
A catastrophic financial collapse erased savings and wages overnight. The explosion at Beirut port in 2020 killed more than 200 people and destroyed entire neighbourhoods. A pandemic, two successive wars, and the long-term presence of an estimated two million Syrian refugees since 2011 have pushed public finances and services to their limits.
Around 60% of the Lebanese population now lives on or below the poverty line, with approximately 30% living below it entirely.
The wave of violence in 2026 has displaced over 700,000 people across the country. Many families in the southern parts of the country refuse to leave their homes, fearing permanent displacement.

Founded during the 1975–76 civil war, the organisation manages between 35 and 40 collective shelters across Lebanon and runs mobile medical units that provide doctor consultations, medication and blood tests, including outreach to border communities in the south. Caritas Lebanon also delivers warm meals and essential items to displaced people.
