This is Cordaid’s Position Paper for COP28 Dubai, 2023. In it we introduce the Climate Peace Security Nexus and explain why the nexus needs urgent attention and action from the international community.
The paper offers key examples of how climate change accelerates conflict and insecurity and vice versa: how conflict and insecurity influence the root causes of climate change.
Three demands, for taking action, are also outlined, and two case studies (Ethiopia and Yemen) are given to provide examples of conflict-sensitive approaches to climate programming and how to focus on climate security in local policies.
