Civil society organisations from Africa and Europe welcome the upcoming meeting of ministers from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) as an essential opportunity to strengthen the partnership between the continents. However, they also stress the urgent need for more ambitious climate action.

Cordaid joins the organisations urging governments to prioritise climate justice at the upcoming conference on 21 May in Brussels. In our work in the world’s most fragile regions, we witness the severe impacts of climate change on a daily basis. The time for hesitation and delay is over. Concrete agreements with African countries should be made now.
This is a crucial moment to advance the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and the energy targets set out at COP28.
Let us ensure that no one is left behind in transitioning to a sustainable future.
