This publication shares key insights, challenges, and lessons learned from efforts to strengthen Sudanese women’s participation in peace processes during one of the most urgent and underreported crises in the world today. Since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, Sudan has faced unprecedented levels of violence, displacement, and humanitarian need. Amid this devastation, women continue to lead in their communities, in humanitarian response, and in peacebuilding—yet they remain largely excluded from formal political processes.

The initiative, coordinated by the Women’s International Peace Centre (WIPC) with support from the Rapid Response Window of the UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) and in collaboration with Cordaid, aimed to address this exclusion by creating space for Sudanese women to organise, strategise, and influence decision-making.
This knowledge product reflects on feminist approaches, the obstacles encountered, and the practical strategies used to navigate entrenched barriers. It also offers concrete recommendations for advancing inclusive peace and political dialogue, grounded in the lived experiences and expertise of Sudanese women.
Their message is clear: participation must go beyond presence—it must be meaningful, consistent, and informed by the leadership they have already demonstrated in shaping Sudan’s history and future.
