Simone Filippini new CEO Cordaid

Today, the Supervisory Board of development organization Cordaid has appointed Simone Filippini as their new managing director. Previously, Filippini held various positions at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She currently holds the position of Consul General in Miami.

Ms. Filippini (1959) studied Slavic Languages at the University of Utrecht. She held various positions at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both at the Ministry in The Hague as well as abroad, including the position of ambassador to Macedonia. With her experience in the international world and her focus on the significance of social entrepreneurship – where business, civil society, politics and diplomacy come together – she fits the profile of Cordaid as a social enterprise.

Simone Filippini: “It is an honor to start working for Cordaid. I’m looking forward to working with the staff and partners of Cordaid, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Their commitment, knowledge and experience are decisive for the results Cordaid will achieve. I want to build further on the new course developed by my predecessor René Grotenhuis over the past few years. I am convinced of the importance and value of building thriving communities, particularly in countries where governance structures are still fragile and the position of disadvantaged people and groups, including women, should be strengthened.”

Supervisory Board president Ernst Hirsch Ballin is pleased that Ms. Filippini has accepted this position: “We have found a person with extensive international experience, who will help further shape the unique position of Cordaid in the changing field of development organizations. Cordaid will be 100 years next year. Ms. Filippini is rooted in the same Catholic identity on which Cordaid is based, and we believe her to be very qualified to lead Cordaid in the current times of internal and external change.”

Simone Filippini will act as the CEO of Cordaid. Henri van Eeghen (COO) completes the Board of Directors.

Cordaid is a Catholic development organization, with its head office in The Hague.  For almost a century, Cordaid has been fighting poverty and exclusion in fragile and conflict areas. In the rapidly changing world of international cooperation Cordaid develops innovative forms of organization and funding for poverty reduction.
